This will apply even if you are still in high school, in college or already out in the working world. One of the most difficult things to accomplish in the process of getting hired is how to separate yourself and stand out as unique to a prospective employer. If you are in school, you probably have a solid GPA and are heavily involved in various extracurricular activities like sports, volunteering, or music, but at the end of the day, there are a lot of individuals who have the same qualifications that you do. If you are already in the work force, what are you doing to demonstrate to your employer that when given the opportunity, you are ready to take your career to the next level. Something you can do right now is to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about crypto while it’s still in its infancy.

Crypto has been around for less than 15 years, but until about 3 years ago, it had been an extremely slow adoption process. Anyone who has paid attention to crypto at all has seen the radical ups and downs that it has gone through. This has happened on multiple occasions and depending on the status of the world economy, or whatever hyped news of the day we hear, it will happen again. It can seem like crypto is on the verge of mass acceptance one moment and on its way out the door the next. Fast forward to today, and there are more than 15,000 crypto projects vying for success and adoption. Make no mistake, crypto and blockchain technology are here to stay, it just hasn’t taken its final form yet.

In a simplified explanation, cryptocurrency is digital currency that uses cryptography for security. In many ways, it’s not like regular money — it isn’t tangible, the government doesn’t back it, and it’s not centralized like our current world currencies, but it spends just like any other currency on the planet (if you know how to use it.) Crypto is tracked and traded on decentralized digital ledgers known as blockchains and its growth in popularity comes to us because of the way our governments have mishandled monetary and fiscal policy for over 200 years. If you understand all of what you just read, then you have a head start on your crypto education. If this didn’t make any sense to you, then I encourage you to seek out a resource that will give you a better understanding — because crypto and crypto related fields are exploding all around us.

Many crypto jobs do require technical expertise in areas like Java, Python, artificial intelligence, and other complex specialties, but what you may not know is that there are many non-technical opportunities that are coming into being as well. Yes, the industry requires those with technical savvy, but with that all that skill comes a tremendous need for support workers. As I said earlier, crypto isn’t going away, and the demand for good quality candidates isn’t either. If you devote time to learning about crypto and blockchain technology now, you may just land yourself a great job, in a market that is exponentially growing.

Here are some of the top industries getting deeply involved in crypto: Accounting; Banking; Computer Science; Education; Finance; Government; Information Technology; Insurance; Marketing; Real Estate; and Retail.

Now that you know some of the different sectors that are getting involved in crypto, here are some crypto careers that are currently available and in demand: account executives; artificial intelligence engineers; software engineers; marketing managers; accountants; financial analysts; journalists; research analysts; technical writers; web developers; security architects; and event managers. This article is not set up to go into the details of each of these positions, but to give you a sample of what’s available in the current job market. Most of these job titles are easily recognizable in the traditional workspace, but the difference here is that these roles are being adapted to accommodate the growing role of crypto in our future. When you start to really look at all the different fields that crypto is being applied to, it becomes compelling that you need to understand the basics as soon as possible.

Here are several examples of large companies that are actively seeking and hiring candidates that understand crypto: Citibank; Intel; Nike; Apple; NVIDIA; PayPal; Walmart; Microsoft; Morgan Stanley; Visa; Hulu; Meta; Google; Fidelity; Amazon; Samsung; JP Morgan; Wells Fargo; MasterCard; Goldman Sachs; and Bank of America to name a few. These companies are aggressively searching for candidates that can come to them with a solid understanding of crypto and blockchain technology. Yes, they will most likely train you if you don’t have this knowledge, but how much more likely are you to get an offer for employment, if you already know the ins and outs of crypto!

Trying to differentiate yourself amongst thousands of others is not easy and there are only so many hours in a day that you can fill up with extra activities. If you add a basic crypto course to your resume or as an added skillset with your current employer, it will definitely garner extra attention. There is no shortage of crypto courses out there, but most do a mediocre job of teaching what crypto is and often leave people with more confusion than anything else. If you are interested in taking the next step, I would invite you to check out our website at www.crypticalthinking.com — we don’t feed the hype that is out there, but instead choose to focus on the fundamentals. We will be putting our introductory course, “Making Crypto Less Cryptic” online in mid-May. It is designed specifically to give you an easy and fun experience with learning the basics of crypto and it should be 2 hours or less of your time. This is a relatively small commitment that could have a huge impact on your future endeavors.
